Triplet 10X Round 18mm Silver. Three separate lenses are bonded together virtually eliminating any distortion at the outer edges of the magnifier.

The compound lens is housed in a silver frame which is designed not to reflect different colour light onto the object being viewed.  The case is nickel plated and serves both as a handle and as a dust protector. The Triplet Loupe is the magnifier of choice for grading diamonds and other gems. In the jewelry trade, it is accepted that a diamond is considered flawless if imperfections cannot be seen at  magnification with a triplet loupe. As the magnification increases, the diameter of the lens decreases.

Keep the loupe 2-3cm from your eye & move the subject into focus. This is the most accurate away. Learning how to focus takes practice. Once you find a sharp focus on the surface of the stone, you can examine the surface but not what’s inside the stone. If you want to see further into the stone, you have to move the stone slowly, closer or farther away until you get the correct focus into the stone.

Find a way to keep your hand steady. You can do that by putting the your elbows lower arms together or bracing your arm against something solid like a counter or desk.

Its vital to keep your hands or arms steady eliminating focus, and to hold the loupe so it’s in contact with some part of your face.

Common mistake is to hold the lens against glasses and substitute or using cheekbones or nose for support.

Remember, a novice will not be able to see what professionals who have been using a loupe for years can see. But use your loupe regularly and you will gain proficiency. Slowly, you’ll begin to see more and more inside each stone.
