The Executive Committee of the Jewellery Manufacturers Association of SA (JMASA), in conjunction with other experts, have created Guidelines when utilising an XRF scanner. These guidelines will assist the analyst with the analysis of gold and gold alloys used in the jewellery manufacturing industry by making use of a surface XRF scanner.
This has come about due to the Inconsistent results which different operators obtain when measuring caratage and not applying a specific user standard. If a consumer walks into a jewellery store and receives an incorrect reading on a piece of jewellery, this gives us all a bad reputation. We need to build consumer confidence in our product. It’s therefore important for all users to adhere to the standard practice.
This document is published as the Jewellery Council of South Africa’s Recommended Guidelines for utilising an XRF Scanner and will be revised on an annual basis.
